El Muro. Olas de Otoño. VI

The Wall. Autumn waves. VI

Icono Inglés. Icon English One more hour had passed when the rain came to the beach. In the distance, a few dark clouds were floating on the horizon. The walkers had moved out, making the park next the sandbank empty. The sea increased its size and the waves were coming in series hitting against the Wall or opening its advance towards the shore. A big wave approached up to the viewing-point and struck the front. The water lost the form, surrounding the circular base of rocks of the emplacement. When it lenfiladed the straight line of stones, it had recovered part of its size. The inertia of the surge agglutinated more water sculpting a comb raised on a big base with form of hill. The majority of us, distanced from the Wall for the conditions, saw the spectacle to a prudential distance. Another colleague received that onslaught, raising his figure on the board and seizing the edge with the hand, went down up to the base. The impression of the impact and his tracing fixed all the looks. Before coming to the soil of the wave he changed direction, advancing parallel on its half. The trip was fast, happening ahead from the group, his opened arms balanced the distance. Further on there appeared the top of the board, half a body turning and water projected towards the sky. Smiles and some shout honoured that trip, his skill and the art that the Cantabrian Sea blended.

El Muro. Olas de Otoño. V

The Wall. Autumn waves. V

Icono Inglés. Icon English At midday, the water was replete of surfers. On the rail that crowns the Wall, Fran peeped; a colleague of waves with a particular style. His face was expressing everything. Waves coming in series, people sailing at full speed, riotous way in some occasions. Nonetheless it was worth it as was imposing the sea, for the passion that was brought, respect and good environment. Several waves rubbed with their combs the high part of the Wall. Another curled wave came and Fran took advantage of its size to jump to the sea on the bodyboard. To the contact with that one, there appeared a curl that favored his pirouette: a roll with clean fall. He descended for the bluish wall describing a curved journey that returned he again to the top. His position was supported a few meters, up to being pushed by the surge towards the shore. The adrenaline increased the activity and other surfers began to do maneuvers on the waves. A new series was coming, this time the direction of the tide was pushing towards the Wall. Everybody began to row to save the blow. I advanced strongly towards the new big wave. The height was overcoming two meters. I introduced the board, with the body stuck to this one to be devoured. In another side, the force of the sea was dispersing water drops in the air. The sea was continuing its trip and other surfers were going out of its back part. Ultimately, a deafening noise accompanied the impact against the rocks. The water was dismissed some meters over the walk. A frozen instant that remembered the respect that it must accompany on every session.

El Muro. Olas de Otoño. IV

The Wall. Autumn waves. IV

Icono Inglés. Icon English Other colleagues were coming to the zone. The large surge was bringing with it distances and maneuvers. Near the Wall, the space began to diminish and the waves were starting trips that were distributed by shifts. On a board scraped of wax, a boy got up. The large wave pushed him ahead. Zigzaging, he avoided the companions. Planning his trip near the comb, he reached long distance. The wave was offering a smooth wall of medium-height that was dragging water furious and was impeding the way. Seeing his maneuvers we were enjoying the experience. Rolled up by an assault of the sea, he supported the balance. Bordering on the foam, continued up to the clean face that existed beyond. The speed removed him from the area, to end near the ramp of access.

The promenade contiguous to the Wall was possessing audience. Persons going and coming, resting, looking at the sea. Attracted by the waves, the hustle, the noise that was coming from below. A medium wave arrived up to my position, dancing the surfers that were ahead. It hit against the wall. Suddenly, the level of the sea increased a couple of meters. The journey was born from a jolt. The narrow top arranged a vertical plane that precipitated my decrease up to the base. Curling in direction the comb, again, I crossed the wave in his half. This time to the water was riding towards the sand. Putting on weight in his advance, 20 meters forward it broke on the surface erasing the route.

El Muro. Olas de Otoño. III

The Wall. Autumn waves. III

Icono Inglés. Icon English On Friday dawned rainy. At 10 a.m. the temperatures were overcoming 14 degrees and the wind had left the downtown. On the way to the beach, I found several cars with boards and some van, towards the Wall. The parking presented half occupation. The tide foreseen for the two of the evening, was advancing; bringing a great coefficient. The water already occupied the area that separates the end of the Second beach of the Sardinero from the nearby access. I saw as colleagues from other beaches were coming. People in the water, navigating the first beaks; were encouraging to enter.

The wind, sheltered in the coast, provided consistency to the surge that for the 11 had a size of meter and a half. A colleague sheathed in his neoprene came up to the rock wall. Wave after wave waited his time. A bigger wave approached, it hit against the curve agglutinating the volume that transported. The comb rubbed the base of the walk, splashing the walkers. Raised in the comb, that surfer launched the day. He inclined his weight lightly ahead. Going down for the sharp-pointed wave, he planned the maneuver towards out; curling the tour softly. From there, he turned again to the top, to be dismissed and to realize a spin in the air. The clean drop enable him to continue sailing until the wave fused its size with the sea.

El Muro. Olas de Otoño. II

The Wall. Autumn waves. II

Icono Inglés. Icon English The days happened with the same inertia in the sea. A light movement of the waves that were coming to the shore was breaking the monotony that was flooding the sandbank. The unusually brilliant Sun for the epoch of the year was surrounding the clouds with light sheen accompanying the ocean in calmness. The surface of the water was looking like cover for a giant canvas. Some beaks were standing out occasionally to return again to the same level. Day after day the temperatures were kept high and the sultry air began to be felt. On Wednesday new predictions were proposed, with notable changes and » thick to moderate sea » for Friday.

The between season covered with water the city. Strong winds, happened by storms and rain. Up to the midday, the sky continued grey. The clouds cleared up in the evening and the air, clean again, was transporting the freshness of the humid grass. Near the Wall, the low tide was reaching its half point. The surge was bringing with force and the previous harmony turned into advance of the waves with an irregular dance that struck the rocks and dragged sand in its retreat. Several persons in the promenade were looking at the combs and foams that were appearing to a few meters of the shore. The birds settled in the sidewalk, to see the sea to change all of a sudden. Remembering, I saw as the thoughts were crossing with the dreams, the rain woke up meanwhile.

El Muro. Olas de Otoño. I

The Wall. Autumn waves. I

Icono Inglés. Icon English The tides of September had happened, bringing besides them an adrenaline trace that floated until November. In the beaches, the flat days, always I found colleagues seeing the condition of the sea insitu, looking at the horizon, feeling the wind in the face. The recollections of the navigations of the beginning autumn tinkled in the environment. Caravans and people walking along the coast were rounding the postcard that was forming the nature, the landscape and the amalgam of diverse persons. A girl, sat to the entry of the sandbank, looked thoughtful at the movement of the Cantabrian Sea enjoying every point in the one that was putting his attention.

The predictions, at a standstill two weeks ago, were announcing good conditions crowned by the traffic of the Moon in its magic tour. The Monday I decided to approach the Wall. The Sardinero was boiling of people encouraged by the sunny evening. The park that gives entry to the beach registered good environment. Persons going and coming, tourists taking photos and local people walking with pets on the sand. The hot temperatures due to the South Wind, name with which is known in Cantabria to the warm and windy air, were encouraging the terraces of the beach bars. After parking, I was walking until the end of the Second beach. The rocks of the end, annotated in its top part for the seafront, were stained with the dance of the surge. Two lads with bodyboards were playing in the water. The wetsuits of showy color were forming the advance of those on the small waves that existed. Barely half a meter of height that to an instant gave a fleeting navigation.

Icon English Several series of surfers entered to the water. The zone was occupied partially, there being a great separation between the groups. Dani was explaining fervently about his wave, I was agreing with the head and reminded his journey. He said that the final curve closed his way, so he went to the shore. After two hours from the entry, the Sea had grown. The tide was accompanying the surge in its higher moment. Fifteen minutes of break emptied lightly the nearest zone to Langre’s Tip. We rowed some few meters which placed us opposite the divide cliff that separates the two beaches. The panoramic sight was injecting a lightweight sensation of happiness, the wind was blowing against and was relaxing the face.

A wave of great size hit against the exterior cliffs. The new series had begun. Two hundred meters of distance, there would be from our location, to her firstly wave that entered the inlet. A thin and high line of water was moving towards the beach. We take positions widthways of the area. Dani and Irne went towards out to sea. The wave, already near, it was spending both meters of height. A hit threw Dani in front of the wave that bore the balance to go out in front of the foam. Irne, better placed, raised his body on the arm of that one. The board was moved on the smooth and polished surface. He descended to the base to turn inward, returning to its face. The meeting took form in my memory as the nicest of the photos. The water on Irne and his opened arms, with the body inflected that ended for synchronizing their movements. A silhouette in the water was indicating his tour, already hidden to the contemplation.

Carretera de la costa. IX

Coast Highway. IX

Icono Inglés. Icon English The gabble that began to come to the beach had distracted our attention of the horizon. The passed time provoked a scene closed by a great elevation of water and a deafening sound. To scarcely fifty meters of distance the voice of Dani was not being listened. Irne had moved towards the vertex of the wave, avoiding its step. To my left side, Dani disputed on the curl that was dragging a water pipe. I saw him curling on the comb balancing the arms. He went down up to the base and went to the top again. Shrunk on the table it seized with his right hand the singing to avoid the onslaught of that one. The other hand was satiating with the wall of the wave. Sailing free on the Cantabrian Sea , he exclaimed a happy moan. I saw him to come up to my position with the relaxed body, formed a unique figure with his board. I introduced my weight on the center of the plate. Already below the sea, I felt the energy of it. In the other side, the Sea was registering the effects of the surge. Lines of foam were splashing a partially sunked plain. I turned to follow Dani’s journey. His trip prolonged other hundred meters, to get lost after a draft on the wall that was transporting him.

Carretera de la costa. VIII

Coast Highway. VIII

Icono Inglés. Icon English Irne appeared behind the foam that covered the end Langre’s left side. The waves continued coming. To our back there appeared a new wave, this time of major size. Its wall was curving towards opened Sea, dismissing tenuous reflections that were indicating its direction. Dani placed to the right, avoided the break that was on him. When it came up to my position it was curling its advance, opening an arm that was extending gradually. Gathering on the comb I navigated through few meters, to descend later up to its base. Balancing the path, I enjoyed an alive tour caressing the wall of the wave. Time later it put its closing out, against me. Way of the comb again, I was thrown after its step. Diving, I avoided the blow of the table.

Irne returned up to our position. Behind him, new people came. Displaced towards the right, Dani preserved his position. The series had happened and the surge seemed to take breath. Thrilled by the trips, we were talking on the maneuvers and sure zones. Dani was listening with attention at the time that it was looking at the horizon. A wave greeted to Langre’s Tip. The sound caused an uproar that was listened in the distance. We kept calm, imagining another good wave. At hundred meters of our location the following series was appearing. A diffuse elevated line, with half meter on the Sea level, was concealing the rest of waves.

Coast Highway. VII

Icono Inglés. Icon English At few distance of the center of the beach, a beak of waves was gathering the return of the water for its wings. The entry was indicated on the surface. The silhouette of the foam was drawing an irregular line that was advancing towards the sea. The contemplation of the alive ocean interrupted our warming, for an instant there was no major enjoyment. The waves were coming in series, the sound was resounding in the wall of the cliff and was wrapping, together with the breeze, all that space. Dani was indicating to the left side and was commenting on his options, Irne and I were looking at the front, absorbed by the spectacle.

The access to the water was hitting against the pace cardiac that accelerated was answering to the desire to know those distances. The temprature, still low, activated the heat inside the suit. Swimming with pause we were advancing in row. A new series was coming. As we were avoiding the waves, the area started clearing up. A comfort zone appeared in front of us. Nods and laughs, before the next wave. For a short time the sea level stabilized. Other surfers were coming to the beach, breaking the silence that dwell for a moment. As we talked, water sank behind us. At fifty meters was born the first wave. We descended and the wall that was formed concealed the rest of waves that were following this one. Irne placed in better position, began to resea laterally. The wave was growing as it was running towards us. Displaced on it managed to be raised, to go down for its face. An arm was opened and curved towards the right. He continued his trip, zigzageando to half a height of the wave. The distance lost him on a water mass that fell in block.
