Carretera de la costa. II

Coast Highway. II

Icono Inglés. Icon English Across the window we saw the beach and the adjacent promenade. The workers continued the work, busy in cleaning the rubbles. The people heaped in the fences was looking and commenting about what happened. The day improved, the clouds dispersed and the Sun was shining; filling the whole avenue of color.

Irne spoke about La Vaca. Waves of ten meters also devastated the north of Santander. The orography of the Quebrada Coast turned in the previous days into an amplifier of the condition of the sea; transforming into sound the wave energy. Big uproars were listened, followed by a degraded tinkling that was interrupted by a new dry and violent blow. Nevertheless, the consequences did not come to firm land. Dani was saying that La Vaca’s waves were for surfers of big waves and that the low ones of rocks sharpened with similar condition of the sea should be avoidable.

At the end of the parking it was parked a van. The lateral door was opened, appearing four persons with bags of sport that put then in the soil. Forthwith, they began to unload the tables and to put on their wetsuits. The distance up to the beach was used as a soft warming, before joining the water. They were towards El Muro, being the first in the day of waves because still there were anyone in the sea. The waves were, at the midday, regular and elongated. Them were supplying different tracings depending on the zone. The size, which was over one meter and a half, had in its medium soft and spontaneous trips. It was playing the sea with its volume of water, describing forms of great beauty and intoning a singing siren that was opening the door in the day of surf that it was going to begin.

On the comb of a wave there rode one of those surfers. Slipping on the closing he advanced several meters, to finish on the foam, with balance. Dani finished his coffee and we returned to look for the equipments. El Muro was waiting for the advance of the tide. Wave after wave was molding a slide that was opening to left side, curling the comb near the wall and prolonging the tracing beyond the curl. We went to the sandbank through the penultimate entry. Irne indicated in the distance, a big wave was walking on the surface. After hitting against the rock wall, it described a curved silhouette that reached a big distance.

The warm water of September reminded the high summer temperatures. We were paddling and exchanging impressions on the present quality, the best zones and the rocky bottom. Irne came first and placed in the begining of the straight line, under the semicircle that sustains the roundabout of the end of the road. Looking with attention for any change of the sea, we scanned the horizon. The emotions and the desires were increasing its presence, making forget the own corporal weight. There came the first wave of that day, it was full with passion. Irne, who was raised up by the wave, was catapulted. We lost his track, which was concealed by the size of the wave. Dani moved his board to half a distance of my position. A little time later the second wave arrived. The water volume raised my board up to the height of the road. There, for the weight of the emotion that was throwing of me forwards, I undertook the decrease. Cutting to left side I contacted the water. I advanced with the hand rubbing the rampant surface. The panoramic who was enjoying in that perspective, provoked a sensation like a satiating flavor that nevertheless was endowing the trip of lightness. The wave was losing its force, up to be equal with the level of the sea. Already lying, I returned rapidly to the same point.
